About Rebalancing Bodywork
Rebalacing Bodywork started to take form in the mid-seventies, when a community of spiritual seekers, including bodyworkers and therapists, formed around Osho, an enlightened Indian mystic. The bodywork that was created from these dedicated followers, called Rebalancing, was named so in 1980 by Osho. Since this time, over 1200 people have been trained in Rebalancing.
The bodywork sprung from practitioners of Rolfing, Trager work, and Feldenkrais, who inhabited the Osho ashram in Poona, India. They took their skills and synthesized techniques which were combinations of the aforementioned therapies as well as Osho’s teachings to create the main tools for Rebalancing Bodywork: joint release, deep tissue massage and body reading.
Joint release is a gentle, movement-based therapy designed to create movement in the joints and surrounding tissues. It is also used to promote circulation and lubrication of the joints. When combined with deep tissue massage, joint release allows the deep work to settle in.
The deep tissue massage included in Rebalancing is often slow and deep. There are often holds on the muscles and attachments of muscles that can be held for up to three minutes, sometimes longer. Pressure of the massage will be adjusted for the client’s comfort, for it is believed in Rebalancing that relaxation can allow the body to return to wellness.
